Overlaying Patterns

Hi There! So this afternoon I happened to get a tad bored and decided to play around with a photograph I took a few months ago. As you can probably tell from previous work that I have posted, I absolutely lovvvvveeee overlaying images with patterns and textures. I think it makes for a really interesting and individual effect. If you're looking to download your own free textures, both www.textureking.com and freestocktextures.com have some good ones.

The below image was done fairly quickly, so in no way is the merging of photo and texture perfect. It's still a good indicator of the types of effects that can be created from merging patterns.

Nerissa Goff- Model

What better way to start the week off than with an interview with bohemian beauty Nerissa Goff. Not only does she have some great diet tips, (I'm loving the 80/20 rule) but also a funny story about a wardrobe malfunction that left her a bit 'nippy'.
Tell me about your background as a model.
"I started modelling when I was a teenager, and did primarily high fashion work. As I grew into my curves and my figure became more athletic, I found that I was more suited to commercial modelling, which is the field I still work in. I've been the face of Endota Spa across Australia, and i've done a lot of work for Frank Body, which is a well known coffee scrub. I've also done a lot of smaller jobs for up and coming Melbourne labels, as well as walking the catwalk for Myer and Gorman."

Do you have any tips for other models wanting to break into the industry?

"My advice to anyone trying to break into the modelling industry is to focus on accentuating your best features. If you’re told you've got an amazing jaw line, accentuate it! Putting highlighter (a light reflecting make up) discreetly along your bone structure is a great idea to draw attention to your best feature. The best trick a model can ever use is to learn to look super natural, whilst drawing attention to his/her best assets. By this I mean doing as much as you can without make up. Focus on the health of your skin, finger nails, and hair. You can do this by eating a healthy diet of fruit and veg, and drinking at least 2 litres of water a day. Style your hair so that it flatters your face, and when using makeup, learn to apply it so you look like you’re wearing nothing. This way you will look natural whilst still highlighting your best features."

How would you describe your personal style?

"When you strip me down to my core, I'm a hippy through and through. My style is very bohemian. I love floaty things and 1970s accessories like vintage belts and wooden bangles. My staples are wooden clogs, great patterned wrap skirts, and a Penny Lane jacket... (A jacket just like the one Penny Lane wears in the movie 'Almost Famous')"

Tell us about something funny that’s happened to you on a shoot?

"During a swimwear shoot, I was frolicking in the waves, (pretending to have fun in the sun, when it was in fact absolutely freezing cold!) and I was suddenly hit by a massive wave that caught me off guard. When I resurfaced, my bikini triangle top was ripped to the sides exposing my cold naked boobs, and I was all disheveled with seaweed in my hair. To top it off the photographer was still snapping shots! In no way was it awkward though, fashion photographers are obviously used to topless models and wardrobe malfunctions on shoots. It was still pretty hilarious, my makeup definitely had to be redone!"

If you could choose to be the face of any brand, which brand would you choose?

"I'd choose something Australian, and a brand I love to wear, like Aussie label Tigerlily."

What fashion photographers have you worked with, and if you could choose any fashion photographer to work with, who would it be?

"I've worked with a fair few, including James Geer, Greta Carroll and Eleanor Castellani. If I could choose a photographer to work with, it'd be either Richard Avedon for his beautiful skill in catching the 'moment' in a photograph, or Ellen Von Unwerth for her incredibly imaginative eye for great shots."

How do you stay fit and healthy?

"I exercise 5 days a week and stick to a 80/20 diet plan. I focus on bootcamp style training 4 times a week, (which is super intense, and a combo between weight and cardio training) and I eat well 80% of the time. This means I eat super healthy 80%, yet I still allow myself a treat every now and then, and that's where the 20% comes into play. I love to cook and love food, so I don't deny myself! Just remember, everything is good in moderation! That's the best way to live."

What is your hidden talent?

"I'm an opera trained singer! (Although I haven't kept up my vocal training in the last 3 years) I have sung opera, and I'm actually a pretty great singer in general, If I don't say so myself" :P

Favourite place that you’ve travelled to and why?

"Although I loved New York because of the great mix of people, my favorite place to holiday is Bali. I don't go there to hang out in the busy parts, but instead, I love staying on the little tropical islands that surround. I love Seminyak, which is situated up in the hills. I love the humidity, warmth,  and overall relaxed feel of the country."
